Even from the vast, glass-fronted shop façade,
it’s very evident that the beautifully laid, instantly
covetable, Danish-designed oak tables or the slick
storage units would sit perfectly within any Bath
home (or indeed Country Living magazine).
“We’re committed and really passionate about
what we do – we have all these products in our
house,” says Michelle. I certainly don’t need
convincing; it’s only a matter of time before the
rest of Bath feels the same."

Rosemary and Stephen Hepplewhite dressed their converted sail
loft in a bright and breezy fashion, echoing its coastal location.
Soon after, the Hepplewhites
looked for a project manager to
oversee the work. ‘Luckily, we
met Michelle Sames,’ Rosemary
continues, ‘who, as wel l as
having building experience, also
owns a local interiors outlet
called Salcombe Trading. When
I wandered around her store, I
fell in love with Michelle’s style
and I knew this was the look

Ever since Barry and Michelle Sames started The Salcombe Trading Company in the
glitzy Devon seaside town 10 years ago, anyone looking for nautical homeware has
navigated their way to the store. Happily, the couple have headed inland and opened a
second shop in the centre of Bath.
The new store stocks furniture, pottery, porcelain and home accessories by British,
Scandinavian and Italian designers and craftspeople, including Linum and Eden Pottery,
as well as the new Vera Wang collection for Wedgwood. With plenty of wooden
products, pale linens and colourful artwork, the range has a homely New England feel.
There’s also everything you need to indulge in some al fresco dining, such as oil lamps,
parasols, and this table and chairs by Skagerak. Fire up the barbecue!

"When the boys were small and we were still living in London,

want a terraced house with a small garden because that was exactly
what we had in town. Instead, we trawled the estate agents until we
found this converted barn, which had just been put up for sale. We
adored its position, which is only yards from the sea.’
