The New England Lodge began as an ambitious vision: to transform a tired two-storey garage and carport into a charming, self-contained guest retreat. Located just minutes from Salcombe and nestled near the North Sands Valley, this renovation celebrates the beauty of New England clapper board design whilst honouring the spirit of the local area.
What started as a structural project quickly became a labour of love in decoration. Four skilled craftspeople spent two full weeks meticulously painting the panelled interior—a decision that would define the character of every room. This wasn't simply a fresh coat of paint; it was the foundation of the lodge's entire aesthetic, bringing warmth and personality to spaces that would welcome guests seeking authentic countryside charm.

Colour, Craft, and Character
The centrepiece of the lodge is a bespoke staircase finished in Hague Blue, a sophisticated shade that anchors the interior with understated elegance. This choice sets the tone for the entire space, creating a cohesive journey through rooms designed for comfort and style.
Two bedrooms provide generous, light-filled retreats, each thoughtfully appointed. Custom-made wool sofas bring luxury and durability to the living spaces—investments in quality that guests will feel immediately. These aren't mass-produced pieces; they're bespoke creations built to last, reflecting a commitment to craftsmanship throughout the project.
The roll top bath represents a bold colour move that surprises and delights. Rather than retreating into neutral tones, this statement fixture celebrates personality and creates a memorable focal point in an otherwise serene bathing space.

Sourced Locally, Built with Care
Every element of the New England Lodge has been carefully sourced—many pieces selected from Salcombe Trading Company itself. This approach ensures consistency in quality whilst supporting the local community and artisans who understand the character of the Devon coastline.
The result was a guest space that feels both timeless and distinctly of place: a New England-inspired refuge that welcomes visitors into a world of considered design, local craftsmanship, and genuine hospitality.
